Monday, September 16th at 19:30 at The Ellinikon Experience Centre
The Embassy of Japan in Greece, in collaboration with LAMDA Development, as part of the events for “2024: Year of Culture and Tourism between Japan and Greece” and the “Talks” pillar of “The Ellinikon Moments” institution, welcomes the internationally renowned architect KUMA Kengo for a one-of-a-kind speech on Monday, September 16th. In the fourth “Talk”, the distinguished Japanese architect will speak about his continuous effort to reconnect architecture with the natural environment and to maintain the continuity between the natural and social contexts, using local materials and traditional motifs.
Prior to the “Talk”, a roundtable discussion will take place at The Ellinikon Experience Centre, where students from Japan and Greece will present the results of the educational workshops titled “Material Cultures: Creating with Wood and Stone”, which were organized by the Embassy of Japan for architecture students as part of the anniversary year, with the generous support of Alberta Shipmanagement and Kuma Lab (Department of Architecture, University of Tokyo).
These workshops, which were held back-to back in Japan and Greece, were coordinated by Mr. KUMA Kengo, Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo & founder of the architectural firm Kengo Kuma & Associates, Mr. TOSHIKI Hirano, Project Assistant Professor, Kuma Lab, University of Tokyo, as well as Mr. Aris Kafantaris, Chief Project Manager at Kengo Kuma & Associates, and Dr. Vasilis Ganiatsas, Professor at the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens, who provided organizational guidance.
Participation to the “Talk” is free, but a reservation is required via this link.
A reservation for the roundtable discussion is also required via this link (will be active on September 6th).
For visitors’ convenience, a free transport service is provided from the main gate of The Ellinikon Experience Park (El. Venizelou Street) to the parking lot of The Ellinikon Experience Park.
